Changes as a young athlete becomes elite

Research suggests that as a young athlete matures and improves to an elite level, their attitudes towards doping become more accepting due to the increase in competitiveness. Louis Passfield, former British Cycling sports scientist, believes "as an older athlete there’s likely to be more riding on your performance. You have to earn a living, support a family, manage expectations from your team and the public about your performance. Also the incentives for performing well are likely to increase i.e. the size of contracts you can obtain." He also blames the "increased commercialisation of elite sport" for driving "the pressure and expectation of athletes to perform and therefore consider doping". Tom and Seb are at the peak of athletics whilst Robbie is at the periphery. The athletes explain how their attitudes developed with experience.
